I’m Adrian Sweeney, a risk and insurance expert.
Someone has to be.
I believe that boards, directors and c-suite executives need better insights in brief, concise and focused ways that will give them the tools to ask questions and help their businesses sustainability. Much of what I write about will have an insurance base but in the majority of cases is applicable to everyone.
So why me? I have a range of strategic, operational and leadership experience in the insurance industry through which I’ve developed a passion for improving the way the industry works, to ensure customers can be safe in the knowledge that their personal assets and businesses are protected. I have nearly 40 years of experience in the sector that covers all General Insurance lines of business in many different countries. With C Suite roles covering Underwriting, Risk Management, Operations and Digital Transformation I have deep understanding of the issues facing the industry and the global forces that are shaping our industry here in New Zealand.
I have a calm, questioning style that encourages purposeful debate and a clear focus on accountability and executable insights. I have a strong moral compass and a focus on the ethics of decision making.

What are we focused on
Risk
Optimising risk is what a business is all about. But the majority of risk insight is solely about the downside at a point in time. This is flawed and ensures opportunities are missed and unexpected events will derail the best paid plans
Taking risks doesn’t mean shirking responsibility, but embracing possibilities.

Technology and AI
Technology and Ai in particular are the way businesses seek to improve their customer experience, productivity and business performance. Separating reality from hype is crucial to informed decision making.
What all of us have to do is to make sure we are using AI in a way that is for the benefit of humanity, not to the detriment of humanity.
Sustainability
on’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.
